The choice of wine and beers isn’t great but the Guinness is ok. Booking recommended

Firstly, the waiting staff from greeting to goodbye... read more were nothing short of fantastic. Attentive, friendly and accommodating we cannot fault them.
The food was brilliant. Great size portions and arrived in good time. I am vegetarian and was well catered for. They also had Guinness 0.0 on tap which is always a massive plus for me!
Overall, it was genuinely one of the best experiences we have had when calling in for an early dinner. Highly recommended and well done Simpson’s- there were plenty of folk in when we visited so you’re doing something right!
The only suggestion I would make would be to allow customers to tip on card. I was told I couldn’t do that, and given I had no cash weren’t able to leave a tip.
Staff were incredible, they are real credit, and the food was fantastic.

Manager Liam (I think that’s his name), along with the rest of the team, couldn’t do enough for us. Nothing was a problem.
10/10 recommend this great spot, make it your next stop!

Asked for a table and was advised it could be up to 30 minutes waiting time and to find a spot at the bar if we were interested in hanging about. The place was rammed, which is a good sign in my book. Found a spot at the far end corner of the bar and waited the full 30 minutes, even though tables were freed up, but no matter. We were seated and handed a one-sided simple menu, which again, is a good sign.
When you get a Sunday Lunch menu and it's full of random 'stuff', you can only assume the kitchen is going to be slammed and you'll be waiting for ages for your food.
They do a 2-course lunch which basically covers the starter and a main, desserts aren't covered in that, which is fine, it's actually cheaper that way as the dessert only adds €2.50 to the bill. I ordered breaded mushrooms with a garlic mayo dip, the First mushroom was beautiful, the second, however, I took a bite and was instantly scolded by boiling hot mushroom juice squirting over my top lip. I'm currently sporting a lovely scab as I write this 3 days later.
Who is to blame for this? I have no idea, if I was of a litigious nature, I'd say the restaurant, for the simple reason that the bowl they served the mushrooms in didn't offer any sort of space to slice them properly without tipping the contents out. But... I didn't complain (nor will I) as I probably should have been more aware and therefore will take personal responsibility.
Anyway...
There was a long wait for the second course. I'd ordered the roast beef, my wife the turkey and ham. They both came as a standard 'seasonal veg' (in this case, carrots), mashed potato and a dash of gravy. My wife hates mashed potatoes, and even though there was no mention of chips on the menu, she asked for them, and they kindly provided her with the alternative (probably the cause of the delay). We asked for an extra gravy boat, which they promptly served us with.
The staff, albeit young and inexperienced for the most part, were attentive. The majority of the elderly patrons were greeted by the more senior staff by their names, so that goes to the local popularity of the establishment.
The food was great, my wife also ordered the banoffee pie to take away with her for later, which she did indeed declare that it was the best banoffee pie she'd tasted in a very long time (and she knows her banoffee).
In summary, would I go again, maybe, no, yeah, yes I would. The Guinness was great, the food piping hot (obviously) and the ingredients and seasoning were spot on. Simple, unpretentious Irish fayre that is quickly dispatched and at a very reasonable price.
